Nancy Parks Expert PageANNOUNCER: Welcome to the MorePhotos Photography Spotlight brought to you by morephotos.com helping professional photographers with all their internet needs. Now here is your host, John Bentley.
JOHN: Today on the MorePhotos Photography Spotlight we have Chandler, Arizona, photographer, Nancy Parks of White Dove Photography Studio joining us. Welcome to the program, Nancy.
JOHN: I bet it is. We're all very jealous here in Michigan. Let's talk about photography. Let's talk a little bit about White Dove Photography Studio. First of all, how long have you been around?
NANCY: Well I have been around what seems like forever, and I love what I do, and I'm so fortunate to be able to do what I love.
JOHN: Well how long has the White Dove Studio been out?
NANCY: Here in Arizona about 7 years.
JOHN: Seven years. Why did you decide to become a photographer, Nancy?
NANCY: Because I a people person I think. I just love art and people and the two just came together.
JOHN: Now is this something that you did when you were a kid, pick up a camera, or?
NANCY: Well I started out in this business as a graphic designer, and I worked a lot with, not only on the light table, but behind the camera, and I enjoyed the instant gratification that I could get by making art with my eyes rather than drawing it.
NANCY: Oh gosh, I have 5 cameras. They're all Canon. I love Canon; I just, you know, I think they're up and coming and their number one in the industry I think.
JOHN: I certainly like I'm a Canon user too, and one thing I really like about Canon is that your lens will fit on any body.
JOHN: That is really, really handy so you are not constantly having to revise.
NANCY: When film was king, I had Canon so it was just a natural procession to evolve with Canon, and I'm glad I did. They're way about Nikon.
JOHN: Now, Nancy, it seems to me that weddings are your prime focus as a photographer.
NANCY: They are, but I also do family photos and pregnancy photos, and I do that for previous customers and new customers.
JOHN: I would imagine you kind of follow the family tree once they get married. Is that the case?
JOHN: Sure. Let's talk about weddings. That is a kind of a tricky thing to photograph, isn't it? You kind of have a one shot opportunity to get that particular picture, don't you?
NANCY: Yes you do and it's all about, for me, if I was to sum it up, I think it.s all about the timing. You just don't take this shot. The anticipation is what I want to say. It's all about the anticipation; knowing when the shot you want is going to happen. Not just taking pictures a million, you know, like spring, the room as a photographers call it, with photos, or snapshots. It's the anticipation of waiting for that right shot that you.re looking for.
JOHN: I see a lot of brides are going with a non-traditional approach to their weddings. Do you find that people are still looking for a more traditional type photo session?
NANCY: Well for me I know that when a young lady comes into my office, she wants the photo journalistic type of photography, and I offer that, but I also offer the traditional type, because her mother will tar and feather me if I don.t get that picture of her daughter full length in a gown.
JOHN: Very good and that's not a good experience to be tarred and feathered.
NANCY: No. So in essence our studio does a little bit of both. I like to think we have a nice mix so we make everyone happy, and we design beautiful coffee table style albums that are the staple today. I haven't sold a traditional album in, I don.t know, 3 or 4 years now.
JOHN: Great so are you designing these photo albums?
NANCY: Yes, each individual album that we make at White Dove Studio is custom designed. So two girls that are best friends could both come to White Dove Studio and use us as their wedding photographer and both of their albums are different.totally different, because it.s a different person and a different wedding, and they're just totally designed they are not cookie cutter, they're not templates. They're totally designed plan client by client.
JOHN: Great. Now we're going to take a break here, Nancy, but why don't you give your website address and contact information please.
NANCY: Ok. Well listen, you can always get ahold of us at www.whitedovestudio.com, or call the office at (480) 857-7403.

JOHNANCY: We are back in the studio with Chandler, Arizona, photographer, Nancy Parks of White Dove Photography Studio. Welcome back to MorePhotos Photography Spotlight, Nancy.
NANCY: Thank you, John.
JOHN: Now we've been talking about weddings, because that obviously is a big part of what you do. You do some unusual type weddings. I see there are some Middle Eastern type weddings that you've done. Tell us a little bit about that.
NANCY: Well it would be Hindu or Indian ceremonies and of course there are several different cultures involved in that, but those are typically three days for a wedding. That's a typical three day wedding and it would start out with the Mehndi which is on the first day and then it would go to sometimes the Garba which is the second day and then of course the wedding which would be on the third day and the reception that night. It.s a very extensive wedding so to speak.
JOHN: And you're there for the whole time?
NANCY: Beautiful, beautiful. The young lady, the colors are spectacular. They're very vibrant. Very beautiful. The sari, the wedding gown, it's gorgeous and the girl changes like three or four times for the, you know, you get a different dress every day. It's beautiful.
JOHN: Awesome, plenty of opportunities for some great photography work.
JOHN: Now you mentioned that a lot of the weddings that you do become return customers, because they start building families. Now you are an on location photographer so tell us a little bit about going on location with families.
NANCY: Well most families today, John, want photos that aren't in front of a backdrop. You know years ago it used to be drop a blue piece of paper and stand the family in front of it and take the photo. People want outdoor shots now. They want to go to where there's water, or they want to go where there's cactus, or they want to go where there's green. It's just more of a family photo type thing in nature, I guess, is what I would call it. And that seems to work out well for me, because I'm on location and so I'll go wherever they want. I just did family photos at Desert Botanical Gardens here in Phoenix. They wanted photos for Christmas cards, a past client of mine, and we went there and had a wonderful session and they got cactus as a backdrop and it worked well.
JOHN: You can't ask for a more beautiful backdrop than Arizona.
JOHN: That's wonderful. Now you do babies and maternity photographs too. Now, obviously, with the maternity photography are you going into people's homes to do that.
NANCY: Yeah. That's pretty much a home deal, because they feel more comfortable at home and my equipment is pretty much able to travel just like me.
JOHN: Great. Speaking of traveling, you are an on location photographer. What are some of the cities and communities surrounding Chandler, Arizona, that you do business out of?
NANCY: Well, of course, there's Phoenix and there's Scottsdale and Glendale, Peoria, lots of places. I've even been to California; I've been to Michigan three times, and once to Pennsylvania. So the possibilities are endless. I've noticed that young ladies that are getting married in let's say Pennsylvania, but they live in Arizona, would prefer to have their wedding photographers close to them, because when they come back they don't want to call long distance and have to wait for their photos. They call here and they know right where they are.
JOHN: What about some of the banquet facilities, wedding halls, anything like that in the Chandler area that you do business out of?
NANCY: Well there's not so many in the Chandler area, I mean, there are, but my favorite one is Gainey Golf Resort and that's in Scottsdale. I think it's Scottsdale's best kept secret. They've got a beautiful waterfall that spreads over; I want to say it has to be about 50 - 60 feet. It looks like a mini-Niagara falls. It's gorgeous and it's very, very, very reasonable so the brides tell me, and Karen and Melissa, the two young ladies that work there are awesome to work with. And then, of course, there's Wild Horse Path which is a Chandler address or Phoenix. I'm not sure if they consider that Phoenix or Chandler, but it is also very gorgeous, more deserty and Cassandra Bowen over there. She would help you out. She's a great asset to the company and there's Desert Mountain, well actually it's called Desert Mountain Resort. It's very beautiful and that is off of Peema Road and Carefree Highway up near Our Lady of Joy Church which is also very gorgeous church. And then, of course, there's Anthem Golf and Country Club. It's gorgeous and it.s in Anthem Arizona and Cathy Kanairno over there would help you out. She's fabulous and a lot of fun to work with and the resort is gorgeous. And gosh there's just so many and all the years I've been doing this, there's just a ton. It's hard to name them all.
JOHN: Yeah, I.m sure. Well, Nancy, we certainly appreciate you joining us today on the VTalkRadio Photography Spotlight.
JOHN: Yes, you're welcome. Now before I let you go, though, why don't you give your website and contact information again?
